Giants. Don't Fuck Around - Resign Terrell Thomas Immediately



Giants 101 - Recently, New York Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas discussed how he and the Giants organization were "on the same page" with regards to resigning for the 2012 season and beyond. Thomas tore his ACL in a preseason game against the Chicago Bears at the inception of his contract year with the team. In 2010, Thomas was a very productive player for the defense, recording 108 tackles, five interceptions, and four forced fumbles. If totally healthy, he is an absolute asset to any defense, particularly the Big Blue defense. On February 8th, Thomas began running at full speed. Tuesday, Thomas worked on some agility drills that displayed significant progress in his rehab process. Thomas has reiterated on a number of occasions that his goal is to be ready to play come week one of the 2012 season. Hopefully it will be with New York.

Look, I know everyone will have expectations for the Giants next season, they just won the Super Bowl so that's natural. I'm not going to sit here and say they were the best team in the league, in reality they had a myriad of problems and overcame them showing insane character and will to win. They got hot at the right time and exposed weaknesses of other teams while coming together and playing over their heads in their areas of weakness. That being said.....

Terrell Thomas is a fucking game changer. He was a lock Pro-Bowler this season, our only pure cover corner and the only corner who knows how to tackle. 108 tackles as a CB?! That's linebacker range. Replace someone like Aaron Ross, who I'm PRAYING leaves as a free agent, and plug in this guy? You're going from easily the WORST tackler on the roster to one of the best, not to mention upgrading the coverage skills by about a million. Thomas strengthens the secondary by a lot, takes the stress off the safeties which in turn allows them to do much more. You'll see Kenny Phillips and Antrel Rolle with a lot more freedom than they had all season and this could turn into an extremely dangerous secondary. Add to that, the better the coverage means the defensive line has much more time to get to the QB. Not like they needed it, but that will force throws and we'll also see an increase in turnovers. Crazy how much difference a solid CB can make, but when you replace someone like Aaron Ross it's almost like you're playing with 11 on defense instead of 10.

PS - If Jerry Reese is smart, he gives Thomas a one year deal to re-establish his value.... Thomas will play this year looking for a long-term extension and I wouldn't be shocked if he becomes an All-Pro.

Antrel Rolle Needs To Stop Speaking

ESPN - Don't tell Antrel Rolle that the Washington Redskins and Rex Grossman might be better than expected this season. And certainly do not tell him that the Redskins are better than the Giants.

"As a team and organization, we know that the Washington Redskins is not a better team than us,” Rolle said in his weekly spot on WFAN radio. “We know that hands down. If we played them 100 times, they might win five. They won that day. It never leaves a good taste in your mouth when you lose to an opponent that you know you are better than.”

When asked by WFAN hosts Joe and Evan if he was impressed by Grossman or thought the Redskins were better than he thought, Rolle replied, “No, not at all.”

“We’ll definitely prove that next time around,” Rolle said. “He is going to feel the Giants come the next time around. We will take care of that when the time comes.”

Rolle finished with six tackles but was flagged for a costly 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty in the fourth quarter after the Giants defense should have gotten a stop. On a 3rd-and-9 at the Washington 45, Grossman hit tight end Fred Davis for a seven-yard gain but Rolle’s penalty gave the Redskins a first down at the Giants’ 33 before they eventually scored to make it a 14-point lead with 5:04 remaining.

Can someone please tell this clown to shut his mouth? This guy talks way too much and it needs to stop. Listen when Rex Grossman shoves the ball down your throat for over 300 yards, stick your fucking tail between your legs and go home and shut up. Like damn, how about being humble? "Redskins is not a better team than us"??!?! If you're gonna speak learn how to do it! Holy shit, this guy is so embarrassing. I'm a Giants fan for life and someone who couldn't believe in this team any more than I do. But with guys like this on the team, it worries me. Confident is one thing, but delusional is another. This guy is the ladder. Since he's been on the team all he's done is talk.

Awesome penalty by the way, only happened in the 4th quarter on an extremely important 3rd and 9 when a stop would've given you the ball back and a chance to still win the game. That penalty literally lost the game for the Giants, but I guess it's okay since 95 out of 100 times you'd beat the team that just smoked your ass.

Without Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck, Terrell Thomas and Jonathan Goff - this defense fucking sucks. There's no getting around that. I think they'll have a couple decent games once they get their two Pro-Bowl DE's back, but the secondary is an absolute joke.

Reaction: Giants 41, Bears 13

Tough win (?) for the Giants last night, absolutely wiping the field with the defending NFC Champions (what a joke) but lost arguably their best cornerback in the process. The one position the Giants couldn't afford to suffer any more injuries at was in their secondary, and on a freak play with only 22 seconds left in the half and likely on his last play of the game, Terrell Thomas collided with Jason Pierre-Paul's third leg and consequently tore his ACL. Out for the year.

All of a sudden the Giants are paper thin at a position they entered camp at pretty deep. Their first round pick Prince Amukamara was lost the second he put his cleats on for his first practice and will be out until at least October. Bruce Johnson had his Achilles explode a couple days prior to that. On top of all this, the one thing that really pissed me off about last night, after Thomas goes down - the next punt return the Giants decide to put CB Brian Witherspoon back to return. Anyone reminded immediately of Jason Sehorn? Well, Witherspoon obviously got hurt, with an injury to his MCL. MRI will be done later today, I'm sure he'll be out for the season as well.

Not all negative reaction though, just wanted to get that out of the way.. Not sure I've been more excited about a punting battle in camp, but it's been interesting to watch. Steve Weatherford was brought in, to everyone’s not surprise, and was thought to be replacing the most atrocious draft pick of all time - Matt Dodge. Dodge, no matter what he does the rest of the season and his career, will always be remembered for his embarrassing division losing punt to Desean Jackson. Anyway, they both looked phenomenal last night. I still have no confidence Dodge will do this in a real game, but he looked much better. When he does connect he hits monster bombs. Weatherford, just overall a better punter with 10x the experience, connected on a couple as well. Biggest difference is the fact Weatherford can control it, and he can put it where ever he wants. That to me will seal Dodge's fate, but for now they're both pushing each other and Dodge is responding very well to the pressure of the Giants bringing in a very good punter - this is definitely more competitive than anyone thought it'd be.
