What Mets Fans Have Resorted To While They're Team Goes Down In Flames, Writing Articles Blaming The Yankees For Everything:
WSJ - Ever since Citi Field opened before the 2009 season, the Mets' new home has drawn the ire of players and fans for its cavernous dimensions, making hitting a home run a Ruthian challenge. The situation became so dire that in January former Mets outfielder Jeff Francoeur called the stadium a "joke." That same year, a new ballpark opened in the Bronx. Yankee Stadium quickly earned a reputation as a launching pad, with home runs flying out at a record pace. In the stadium's second month of existence, first baseman Mark Teixeira shattered his bat—and sent the ball soaring over the fence. With that in mind, and the Subway Series set to resume in Queens this weekend, we decided to try a little experiment. Just how well would those Yankee sluggers do if they had to play half their games at Citi Field? The answer is striking. With the help of HitTrackerOnline's Greg Rybarczyk and the ESPN Stats and Information Group, we looked at every home run hit at the new Yankee Stadium by seven key Yankees (through Sunday). Of the 242 homers, only 120 (49.6%) would have cleared the fence at Citi Field, assuming average weather conditions. Rybarczyk, an engineer, tracks the distance of all home runs hit in the major leagues, using software that accounts for trajectory and atmospheric conditions. Using his data, he is able to estimate the number of parks in which any round-tripper would be a home run. Shortstop Derek Jeter would have been affected most, with just four of his 20 homers leaving Citi Field. For Robinson Cano, who hits most of his home runs into Yankee Stadium's short right field, the number is 18 of 40. Even Alex Rodriguez, one of the all-time best home-run hitters, would have lost 41% of his homers if he played his home games at Citi Field. The Mets' inability to hit homers at Citi Field immediately sparked a fierce debate among fans: Was the new ballpark to blame for their team's power outage, or did the Mets simply lack firepower in the lineup? After all, no team in baseball has hit fewer homers than the Mets in the past three seasons—something had to be held responsible. Statistically speaking, there's no doubt that Citi Field has played a tangible role. Wright, for example, hit 10 homers in his first season there after swatting at least 30 in the previous two years. Jason Bay has hit exactly 10 home runs in two seasons with the Mets after compiling 181 in the six years prior. Then there's the effect of psychology. In 2009, Atlanta's Chipper Jones said he thought Wright was becoming frustrated with the stadium's dimensions. Though Wright denied it, other players have acknowledged that hitting at Citi Field requires a certain mental makeup. "If you try to hit home runs at Citi Field, a lot of them are going to be flyouts and your average is going to go down, and you're not going to be that effective," outfielder Scott Hairston said. "You really have to battle yourself to stay within yourself and hit line drives." Wright may have been hurt by Citi Field more than anyone because of his propensity for hitting home runs toward right-center field—a trait he shares with many of the Yankees' best hitters. Cano, Teixeira and Curtis Granderson all hit a majority of their home runs in that direction, and Rodriguez also has power to the opposite field. None of the Yankee Stadium homers hit by Jeter or Rodriguez into right or right-center in the past three years would have left Citi Field. With three games scheduled this weekend, the Yankees hope to survive—and quickly head back to their bandbox in the Bronx. "Yankees' hitters are obviously excellent hitters," Hairston said, "and it makes them even better when they're playing in a ballpark like Yankee Stadium."
Now I know my close friends who are Mets fans are going to be up in arms about this, but let's just read an email I sent to the guys who sent me this at work. First of all, this was back in July before I started this blog and I just came across it.. With all the Super Bowl hype and football talk, figured I'd break it up with some good old Yankees/Mets shit:

Bobby Valentine Says He Hates The Yankees. Yawn.
ESPN -- Not wasting a moment to spice up the rivalry, new Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine declared Wednesday how he feels about the New York Yankees. "I hate the Yankees," Valentine said while surrounded by a herd of media members at the Winter Meetings. "I don't want to waste this valuable time talking about the Yankees. This is too valuable." On Tuesday, Yankees manager Joe Girardi was asked what Valentine's presence would mean to the rivalry and was a little more diplomatic. "Bobby adds some spunk to his clubs," Girardi said. "No doubt about it. I didn't get to witness him first-hand a lot. But Bobby's been successful wherever he has went. It should be exciting." According to one major league public relations official, the media pack around Valentine was the largest one they had ever had for one of these sessions. Valentine's force of personality is one of the things he brings to the rivalry, making it different than when Terry Francona was the Red Sox manager. Valentine always makes people pay attention. He has already started the countdown to when the two teams first meet in the regular season, Friday, April 20, at Fenway Park. You know what, Bobby? Learn to talk about the Yankees, they're the division champs - you're going to have to deal with them a little bit here and there, gonna be a lot a questions all season about if you're ever going to catch them in the standings. I'm so bored with this because it's so predictable, just typical Red Sox playbook. Immediately try and insult the Yankees, the classiest and greatest winning organization in sports history. Love the hiring of the biggest name out there even if all your players fucking hate him, why should they be happy anyway they're just the ones who do all the work and the same ones you depend on to win you games, no big deal. Hire a guy who's such a great manager that he spent the last decade in Japan and working for ESPN because he couldn't find work in the Major Leagues. 2012 should be fun. Way to try and fit in, Bob, the "I hate the Yankees" line is so fake and scripted at this point it doesn't even matter. It's like breathing in that city, people say that shit when they wake up. I don't even blame them - 27 World Series in NY and about the same number of epic fail collapses in Boston. I'd probably be waking up saying "I hate the Yankees - Ughhh what time is it I don't wanna go to school". It's like an involuntary twitch up there.
PS - Love how he has a countdown to the first time they play NY, meanwhile the Yankees are counting down to opening day in Tampa against the real AL East competition and focused on defending their AL East Division Title.

Engrave The 2012 Gold Glove Award
ESPN - While some thought Brett Gardner should have won the Gold Glove over the Royals' Alex Gordon, Gardner thought he could have done more. "It is what it is," Gardner said. "It is obviously something I would have been very excited about. I'll be honest with you, there are things I could have done to be a little bit better last year on that side of the ball. I made a few mistakes that were careless that I shouldn't have made." Gardner said his four errors were the most he has "ever" had. Gardner said he will resume workouts soon, but thus far has been trying to enjoy his time off. "It is one of those things, I wasn't expecting to come home this early so I just tried to enjoy some time off, relax and get ready to get started for next year," said Gardner.
If I put together the season Brett Gardner did in the outfield in 2011, I'd be going batshit crazy that there were no arrests made after I got robbed of the Gold Glove award. But I'm not as classy as Brett Gardner, dude is pissed but instead of flipping shit he decides he's just going to get better. Is that even possible? He already covers the most ground in the major leagues with the highest Zone Rating and was tied for the league lead in Defensive Runs Saved with 20. Can the Yankees just use 5 infielders and leave him in left center and Granderson in right center? Makes sense right? This guy is a beast in the outfield, and with all the shit that went on with Alex Gordon inexplicably winning the award so Kansas City didn't complain and finally quit Major League Baseball since they never win anything - I expect the next 10 years to see a Gold Glove with this guys name on it.

A-Rod Up With Season On The Line - Hell Is Still On Fire, Pigs Still Not Flying, Yankees Season Over.
Gotta love when Mets fans call us cowards. They can't figure out why losing sucks, but Yankees fans actually expect to win - it's an outside the box concept to Mets fans but trust me shit is exciting. Yankees losing is like them winning the Championship, it's what they look forward to every single year when they realize April 20th that the Mets are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. Love to say I'm surprised by this, but it's in every Mets fans DNA to just root for losers and against winners.
As for the game/series, nothing really shocking here besides me admitting this: Valverde flat out shoved it up our assholes. I've never had that done before, and it wasn't comfortable, but I guess it's no one's problem but ours. I mean he did straight up tell us he was going to do it, told us the series was over, we should've seen it coming.... But we didn't. Blindly believing we had a shot, acting overly confident to hide the insecurities of being old and tired and having a rookie throw a series clinching game.

I'm still on the Nova bandwagon, two bad pitches and an "injury" in two innings isn't enough for me to crucify this kid - he was ready, he came out throwing strikes and minus back to back pitches that went yahtzee he looked pretty sharp. At least we know we have one starter next year behind CC.
Biggest thing that's been bothering me, and been bothering me since the day it happened.... A-Rod is signed through 2017. This is a problem. He made $31,000,000 this year. He's going to be making an average of $24 million for the rest of his career based on his contract. Is it me or aside from the genius Soriano contract, was this by far the dumbest move in Brian Cashman's career? He signed a 32-year old at the end of his prime to a 10 year contract for $275 million dollars?? What was the thought behind this?? This guy is clearly donezo. He played less than 100 games this season, has been injured and on the DL on and off since this deal was signed. He's just not the same player he was when he was on the sauce, simple facts. He absolutely sauced up in 2007 and got away with it to put up those monster MVP numbers just to opt out and get this filthy asshole, money grubbing, cocksucking contract - and he sauced up for the playoff run in 2009 because it's obvious he can't fucking hit in the postseason. You can't tell me this guy was focused in that last at-bat against Valverde - he was stressing the fuck out about what everyone was going to say today when he struck out with the game on the line.
It's not all A-Rod, but he frustrates the shit out of me. I honestly wish he was a fucking dick. He's so politically correct with all his bullshit fakeness in interviews it makes me sick. I wish he'd just be like "Well I'm trying to do my fucking job and these asshole fans just boo the shit out of me, whatever I'm just gonna go home call up whatever celebrity Jeter is finished fucking and bang them, all those fans have to go back and have the same lives they had yesterday with the same problems so I'm good" like just be a fucking asshole and own it - have a personality. He's so fucking bland it makes want to vomit, it's embarrassing. He tries so hard for peoples approval and instead he should be telling everyone to suck his dick and take a look at his bank account. Guy has a championship and a billion records yet he acts nervous as fuck under pressure like he even has anything left to prove - just fucking play! Damn.
But bottom line, when you have the bases loaded twice and the only run that comes across is via the walk, you're probably going to lose. The lineup is worth a bajillion dollars you think it could produce some runs there. 40 guys left on base this series, the Yankees straight up didn't deserve to win it. They're old, slow, tired, careless. That's what it looked like. Only positive from this is Cashman should be pissed enough about all the critics blasting him from not making any moves last off-season and at the deadline and pissed enough about the way the team played that the next couple months should be fun as shit to watch. I'm going to break out the popcorn and watch him rip the team apart and reassemble it with some new free agents... Can't wait. Best team money can buy folks!

ALDS Game 4 Recap
Granderson doesn't make that catch in the first inning, we're talking about a loss right now. Fact. Sure he misjudged that ball, but anyone who's played baseball knows that is the hardest play to make as an outfielder, he made the adjustment and literally saved the game and probably Burnett's career as a NY Yankee. The catch Granderson made in the sixth might have been one of the best catches I've ever seen watching a game live. Like I said yesterday I thought Granderson and Gardner were the only two ready to play and there was no way Grandy was letting the Yankees lose that game. For all the talk about the Yankees lineup and their potential to score runs, the defense was what came up huge last night.
The other positive was obviously Burnett, 5 2/3 innings and only 4 hits is like getting a 2-hit shutout from CC. Season on the line, everyone talking shit about him and he bossed up and came through and his wife is still hot. Pretty much scared the shit out of everyone in the first inning, but calmed down after the big catch by Grandy and did his job. The bullpen did their part and wait what? Phil Hughes actually did a good job? By the way Boone Logan was fucking dealing. Dude was pumping, hitting spots just striking out the side to end it like a boss. Jesus Montero is a fucking stud, first ever postseason at-bats? 2 for 2 with a RBI no big deal.
Now we've got Rookie of the Year Ivan Nova going up against Brazzers star Doug Fister for all the marbles. Yanks riding high off their first elimination game win on the road since Mo' got beat in the desert - crowd will be fuckin' rowdy in the Bronx, Bleacher Creatures dominating the roll call, Nova pumping strikes, Cano going upper deck. Everyone just take care of their shit and there should be a nice calm celebration Thursday night before it's on to meet up with the Rangers in the ALCS, you know the team the Yankees went 7-2 against this year. LET'S FUCKIN' GO!

ALDS Game 3 Recap
Well that sucked. You can't ask for much more than 4 runs and 6 hits off Verlander, that in itself is just being greedy. CC was just flat out not getting the corners, had to pitch to contact and eventually that got him in trouble. He threw a shit load of pitches by going deep into counts and couldn't get past the 6th. I honestly think Game 3 was the most important game of the series, literally changes everything - CC just didn't have it on a night he really needed it. Few calls here and there and it's an entirely different game, but can't make excuses - just needed to be better. Mr. Why Haven't We Handed Him The Cy Young Yet Verlander got into a groove, fanned something like 13 out of 10 guys and the stadium was going fucking crazy. Struck out the side on like 4 pitches at one point. I'll admit I'm not a fan of Posada but the dude put together a MONSTER at-bat down 0-2 to Verlander in the 7th, laying off absolutely filthy curveballs close to the zone and eventually worked a walk. Russel Martin immediately wore a 100mph ched ball off his ribs like an absolute champ, seriously don't know how he's not dead right now. Then Brett Fucking Gardner came through with a huge two-strike two run double to tie it up. Guy is an absolute gamer. Game tied, fuckin' awesome right? Oh wait....
Leave it up to Soriano to give up the lead the next inning on one pitch to Delmon Young. Sidenote: John Smoltz called the shit out of that, too. "Be careful here with this first pitch"....... Silence..... The pitch..... Gone. Usually I can't stand listening to broadcasters, but Smoltzy was on his fucking game last night. After that, giving Verlander another chance with a lead that late, it was pretty much over. But anytime Fat Boy comes in to close it out, there's a chance - and there was. Had The Captain up with a chance to tie the game, but Valverde K'ed his ass for the second night in a row to end the game. Honestly, he struck out the pitch before that when he got absolutely froze on that split that landed right on the corner. Whatever, I guess it's better to look like you're 37 years old by swinging at a fastball that passed you 5 minutes ago.
I think it's clear - this team is OLD as shit. A-Rod is literally an automatic out, Tex thinks it's April and it's okay to hit .100, Cano had his 6 RBI's so he's done with this series.... Outside of Granderson and Gardner it's tough to see anyone in this lineup that's ready to play right now. I think 4 games in a row with no travel day is tougher on this team than any others. The left side of the infield is a combined 243 years old and they're definitely showing it. The entire season now rests on AJ Burnett..... Let that sink in.... Ummm his only start in Detroit this year he actually looked pretty good....? Fuck....
PS- Worst thing about Soriano giving up the HR is the fact you know he couldn't possibly care any less - fucking hate that.

Guaranteed ALDS Win For Tigers - Coming From The Guy Who Sees The Field The Least
ESPN - After closing out the Detroit Tigers' win over the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the ALDS on Sunday, closer Jose Valverde believes the Tigers are a lock to win the series. "I think the series will finish in our house," Valverde told ESPNdeportes.com's Enrique Rojas and other outlets. "They have a good team, but the series is not (coming) back to New York. We have a big advantage," said Valverde, who was 49-for-49 in regular-season save chances. "We have Verlander ready for tomorrow. In the bullpen, we are ready." Valverde entered Game 2 in the ninth with Detroit up 5-1 and quickly made things interesting. The closer allowed a solo homer to Nick Swisher to lead off the inning. Jorge Posada then followed with a triple to deep center. After a Valverde walk to Russell Martin, Andruw Jones drove in Posada with a sacrifice fly, cutting the Tigers' lead to two runs. He then appeared to get a game-winning pop-out in foul territory off the bat of Curtis Granderson, but catcher Alex Avila slipped on the surface of the on-deck circle and failed to make the catch. Granderson eventually worked a walk, putting the winning run at the plate in Robinson Cano, who had six RBIs in Game 1. But Cano grounded to second to end the game. "Thank God my team won," Valverde said. The closer also guaranteed that he'd be available for Monday's game. "I can pitch in 11 straight," he said.
Get a load of this fuckin' guy. A regular
PS - Love that everyone is so focused on Verlander throwing like the Tigers lineup isn't shitting themselves they have to face CC again. Cy Young match up tonight should be sick, but I'll take my chances with CC considering Verlander hasn't beaten us this year. Oh yeah and Valverde probably should've remembered he sucks against the Yankees:
Sports Illustrated - The Yankees also scored on Valverde in two of his last three appearances against them, all coming in Detroit in early May, handing him a loss on May 2. In 5 2/3 innings of work against the Yankees this year, including Game 2, Valverde has walked six men against five strikeouts while posting a 6.35 ERA.
Nice stats asshole.
PPS - If you believe in jinx's and all that other baby crap go cheer for the Red Sox or the Cubs. We don't do that in NY, sorry.

Red Sox Continue To Impress
ESPN - The Red Sox found another way to lose, this time on a broken-bat single and an inside-the-park homer, and their 6-3 defeat against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night dropped them into a tie in the AL wild-card race.
Boston's 17th loss in 22 games enabled Tampa Bay to pull even in the duel for the league's final playoff spot. The Rays, who beat the New York Yankees 5-2, trailed by nine games after play on Sept. 3.
The Red Sox had either stood atop the AL East or led the wild-card race every day since before play on May 24.
Is there any possible way to put this into perspective? Anyone else realize we're witnessing baseball history here? The 2007 Mets were bad, but this is bad. The Red Sox have lost 19 of their last 25 games, that's fucking impossible. Sure they can still make the playoffs, but what are the odds of that happening? They need to win two in a row and they haven't done that since last month. They were up 9 fucking games on Labor Day and are now tied for the Wild Card. Anyone watching the Yankees/Rays game last night noticed two things - the Yankees don't give a shit and are rolling our all their September call ups and Phil Hughes, and that the Rays just fucking want it. They're busting their ass all over the field just to eek out a win over the AA Yankees. I don't give a shit what scenario is better for the Yankees going into the postseason, I just want to see this collapse be completed. I feel bad for the Mets, kind of need someone to take the title of biggest choke artists of all-time so they can move on with their lives.

Yankees Never Wanted Crawford And His 18 Steals, Just Wanted The Red Sox To Pay Out Of Their Ass
ESPN - New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman admitted Thursday that he feigned interest in Carl Crawford last offseason to drive up the price for the Boston Red Sox to sign the free agent.
"I actually had dinner with the agent to pretend that we were actually involved and drive the price up," Cashman said. "The outfield wasn't an area of need, but everybody kept writing Crawford, Crawford, Crawford, Crawford. And I was like, 'I feel like we've got Carl Crawford in Brett Gardner, except he costs more than $100 million less, with less experience.' "
Surprisingly, one could argue that Gardner has had a better season than Crawford. Gardner is batting .261 and leads the league with 46 steals. Crawford never got going in Boston and is hitting .259 with only 18 steals, the fewest he's had since his rookie season.
Going into the season, Cashman said Red Sox GM Theo Epstein, who also landed Adrian Gonzalez, "kicked my a-- in the offseason."
How does he feel now after winning the division?
"What I said was accurate: The Red Sox had a great winter, and I had a bad winter," Cashman said. "But as it turned out, I had a better winter than anybody would've expected, including myself."
And it cost the Red Sox.
Listen, do I think Cashman is being honest here? Absolutely not. But who cares? Shit is hilarious. You wanna talk about playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers, look at my man Brian here. I can just see Theo Epstein flinging shit around his office like a little pussy boy about his terrible $142 million dollar purchase. Seriously look at those stats, Brett Gardner playing like a $150 million dollar outfielder just leading the league in steals no big deal. Of course Cashman looks like the genius he is, holding onto our stud catcher who will be in All-Star by next season. We got Nova who can't lose a fucking game if he tried on his way to taking home Rookie of the Year. Cashman will get GM of the year, Girardi manager of the year, and the team will get to take home that gigantic trophy when the World Series ends sometime in the middle of November.

Salute To The G.O.A.T.
It's time to officially place Mariano among the greats of the game. I say place him in the Hall of Fame right now, while he's still playing. Seriously, who's going to argue that? Every other player will be like "Yeah, that sounds about right."
The guy has amassed 600 saves with 1 pitch. Faced 4,800 batters in his regular season career.
His regular season numbers are a joke:
Number are up to date including last night.
ERA: 2.22
WHIP: 1.000
Compare those with his postseason numbers:
ERA: 0.71
WHIP: 0.766
What's the opposite of LeBron James? Mariano Rivera.
The most clutch performer in baseball's rich history. When this guy comes in the game, it's over. You can't even say "in his prime" because the guy is still doing it. He might have added a pitch, but you know what? He doesn't throw a 97 mph cutter anymore. But he's adjusting and he's still getting everyone out.
He's 41 years old this season and through last night here are his 2011 stats:
SAVES: 41
ERA: 2.05
WHIP: 0.930
SO/9: 8.7
The guy is outperforming his career averages at age 41. Besides Bonds who was using every juice on earth, this is the only guy I've seen dominate this late in his career, and no one suspects anything. He's been widely criticized about losing it, about being finished, about being past his prime - but look at the numbers, the guy is still the best in the game. There's no question about it. Besides Pedro Martinez, there's no one in the discussion as being the best of his generation. Guy is a true champion, and the best of all-time.

AL Central Really Belongs in the NL
How the hell are the Tigers leading a division with a -17 run differential? How bad does your division have to be in order for that to happen?
Take note of how unbelievably good the Yankees are, +178?? Must really suck to be the Rays. How bad do they want to be in the AL Central? Realignment needs to happen and it needed to happen yesterday.
