Marky Mark Goes HAM On 9/11 Comment

Yahoo - In a recent interview with Men's Journal, Mark Wahlberg made a remark about the 9/11 attacks that could spark a considerable controversy. Wahlberg was originally scheduled to fly on one of the planes that hit the World Trade Center. Fortunately for him, he took a different flight a week earlier. When he spoke to Men's Journal about what could have been, Wahlberg remarked, "If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn't have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, 'OK, we're going to land somewhere safely, don't worry.'" Wahlberg quickly apologized for the remark. According to gossip site TMZ, he said that his comments were "irresponsible" and that "to speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with. I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention."

Tough to defend Marky here, sucks because I like the guy, but even I know sometimes things cross the line and this looks like one of those times. I'm all about 9/11 conspiracies and shit, and I still don't think we know the whole truth about it, but I'm not about to get famous and then say I would've saved thousands of people from certain death because I beat people up in movies and shit.

On the other hand, to his defense, guy was supposed to be on that plane. I don't know what kind of mental toll that must have on a person, but not like the guy has been struggling to live. He's made about $500 million since 2001 so can't really complain about him not living life to the fullest here. Seems to be the attitude he's taken, but still who knows how he deals with this shit. I don't know how I'd get over whatever kind of survivors guilt I'd have knowing I was supposed to be on a plane that hit the WTC. Just some crazy shit to have to deal with, so all in all I've gotta give some kudos to the guy for going over 10 years without saying anything public about it.

So I guess I defend Wahlberg because he obviously didn't say that, Chuck Norris did, but he did it in Mark Wahlberg's body, because Chuck Norris can do that.

First Three Winning Horses At Belmont On 9/11 Were.... Welp 9/11

The Spread Sheet - Some pretty amazing things have happened at Belmont Park. This famous track is where Secretariat clinched the Triple Crown in 1973 with one of the most memorable feats in sports history.

Secretariat was a miracle in himself, but another tiny miracle happened at the track in the little town of Elmont, N.Y., on Sunday. The first three winners of the day were the 9 horse, the 1 horse, and the 1 horse.

That's right: On the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the first three winners were 9-1-1. Jockey David Cohen rode the first two winners, Say Toba Sandy and Wishful Tomcat. Then Simon P. Husbands rode Haya's Boy to victory in the third race.

Was it a coincidence? Call it what you want. But this didn't happen at any racetrack. This happened at New York City's home for horse racing -- at a landmark that served as one of the staging areas for emergency vehicles and personnel in the days following 9/11. And the races were held only a few minutes after a special ceremony to commemorate the sad anniversary.

The $2 Pick 3 paid $18.60, but anyone with that priceless ticket will probably want to hold onto it forever.

Can't make this shit up. NYC just showing off in front of the whole nation. And they can't do anything but take it.

September 11th, 10 years later.

I know the format of this blog is kind of informal, not a lot of serious talk on here... But I live in NY and 9/11 was a big deal for everyone here. Sure it changed the nation, but it happened here, we had to deal with it first hand. I was fortunate enough not to have lost any family members or loved ones, but I know a lot of people who were first responders and who had lost people they were very close to.

My roommate joined the Army to defend our country. I'm obviously forever in debt to him for that, it's something I think about every time we hang out, just the ultimate sign of courage - he put himself on the front line for us so we can live our life and enjoy the freedom he was defending. He's the fucking man. I'm glad he was able to come back to us unharmed and he escaped being eaten by any camel spiders (Google that shit, I'm not posting a pic because it scares me).

My cousin is helping rebuild down at the site. He's working on the Freedom Tower or WTC 1, not sure which name they're sticking to at this point. He's up there everyday working hard to rebuild that thing and I think it's pretty awesome he's a part of the process. He posted this picture of it around 5am the other day, he couldn't figure out words to describe it - I suggested: fucking awesome.

So obviously it will be an emotional day for a lot of people. I love the fact we have sports to bring us together, they've always been there to kind of distract us from things. At this point, it's no longer looked at as a distraction as it is a testament to the United States. You can knock some buildings down and think you shook us, but we're still living a free life and enjoying the things you don't want to enjoy or won't allow your country to enjoy. So on September 11th, I'm going to crack a beer and watch the NFL with all of my closest friends, just like I did before and there's nothing you can do about it.... Because I'm free.
